Dr Dongxun Lyu studied Chemistry (BSc) at Imperial College London. She then moved to the University of Cambridge, where she completed both a MPhil and a DPhil degree under the supervision of Prof Dame Clare Grey at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry.
Dr Dongxun Lyu's research interests centre on understanding energy storage mechanisms in advanced materials using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. She is particularly interested in how ions adsorb at electrode鈥揺lectrolyte interfaces and how they migrate through the bulk electrolyte between electrodes, processes that are critical to improving energy storage technologies. During her PhD, she developed an integrated approach combining NMR spectroscopy with computational simulations to quantify ion adsorption in porous carbon, a common electrode material in fast-charging supercapacitors. She then extended this method to investigate ion interactions in soft, conductive polymers, which are promising electrode materials for wearable electronics due to their adaptability to soft tissues.At St John鈥檚 College, she looks forward to advancing this work by exploring how molecular microstructures influence ion transport pathways in conducting polymers using NMR spectroscopy. Her goal is to establish structure鈥損roperty relationships to guide the molecular design of next-generation soft conducting materials.
